Who better than the Josephites to give us an “inside” look at the character who gave early shape to Jesus’ Jewish life and spirituality. When Mary MacKillop and Julian Woods were establishing a new religious group in Australia, why did they turn to Joseph as their identity-marker? Human aspirations, Gospel verses, and ancient legends all met to sow the seeds that would flourish in this soil, and be known with respect and gratitude as “the Joeys.”

Journeying with Joseph is a timely publication not only for the Year of St Joseph, but one which allows us to delve more deeply into how we might draw inspiration from him to follow more closely the path of being a missionary Disciple, in a world deeply affected by COVID. The net is cast well and wide when you survey the topics contained in this book, and these show that while St Joseph may not have spoken any words, his deeds were, and are, profound. Mary Cresp is a Sister of St Joseph from South Australia. Having ministered in teaching and pastoral roles, she gained a Masters in Theology and Spirituality and taught at the Adelaide College of Divinity. Since then she has served as Congregational Leader for the Sisters of St Joseph, Vice-president then Executive Director of the Conference of Australian Religious, Congregational Leader for the Sisters of Perpetual Adoration and Councillor for the Josephite CentreWest Region. Since 1986 she has been a member of the Australian Lutheran/Catholic Dialogue and has held leadership positions for local and national Associations of Spiritual Directors. Books she has written include Choosing Life (co-authored 2001), In the Spirit of Joseph (2005), Villa Maria (2009), Prayer-Chats with Julian (2010), In Her Footsteps (2012) and God’s Good Time: Sisters of St Joseph in Ministry with Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples (2013).
