Description

About the book
The book is a collection of essays arguing that Christian theology in Australia, if it is to be fully authentic, must hear Indigenous voices and perspectives as integral to its task. There are three essays on this theme by non-Indigenous Australians, and one by a Polish-Russian philosopher of ethnology who addresses the question of Indigeneity more widely. Two essays by scholars of Māori background living in Australia address the problematic of being both Indigenous but living on stolen land. The remaining four of the contributors are Indigenous Australian theologians who reflect on the particular situation in which their community finds itself in the aftermath of the unsuccessful 2023 Referendum on a Voice to Parliament. Poetry plays an important role in a number of the chapters as the expression of primary emotional response calling the reader to deeper reflection.

Contributors: Naomi Wolfe, Stacey Wilson, Duncan Reid, Daniel KIshakov, Talitha Fraser, Tamara Witika, Nicolai Kostin, Sarah Eldridge, Janet Turpie-Johnstone and Glen Loughrey.
