About the book

This volume is an introduction to the linguistic scholar Suzanne Noffke, OP (3/3/1937-4/142020) and her writings, which made the wisdom and writings of the mystic Catherine of Siena available to the English-speaking world. This work provides a sampling for both beginners and scholars of articles by Suanne Noffke that draw images and insights from her published works: T he Dialogue (1980), The Prayers (2001) (1983), Catherine of Siena: a vision through a distant eye (1996), The Letters Volume I (2000), Volume II (2001), Volume III (2007), Vol. IV {2008), and The Anthology Volume II {2011), Volume 1 {2012).

We catch a glimpse of the turbulent yet rich world of Maria Benedicta Bauer {7/17-180310/13/1865), German Dominican contemplative, who founded the active Racine Dominican women’s community that nurtured the gifts of Suzanne, and carried on Suzanne’s early foray into Jewish-Christian relations with a video called A Troubled Brotherhood (1999?). The Racine. Dominican Community’s contribution to Jewish-Christian Relations was intensified by Rose (Rose Albert) Thering with Rose’s doctoral work at St. Louis University (1957-1961) and the role of her thesis in the publication of the Vatican II document Nostrae Aetate.

This work will also explore anew the mottoes and symbols that continue to distinguish the Dominican Family as it continues to serve within the wider Catholic Community.
