About the book
This book is about people I encountered and places I experienced, about vital cultures I entered, and transformative ideas that entered me. And about a few significant teachers I had.
Some of these reflections and studies have been published in recent years, while others are drawn from past publications.
After my post-graduate studies in German I taught for decades in seminaries that had become graduate theological schools where the students included future priests, sisters, and lay men and women preparing for ministries. In those years I often gave classes in adult education in Lutheran as well as Catholic parishes, on Sundays, or held classes on weekday evenings in small towns and medium sized cities. Each summer I taught large classes of priests, sisters, and lay people in MA programs at Catholic universities. I published articles in various areas about the contemporary expression of the Christian understanding of God’s revelation.
These pages bring together essays from and recollections of the past and its changes in church and society.
While these pages tell of the past and of the present, they also continue to fashion the future.
