Gerald O’Collins was born in St Kilda, Melbourne and graduated at Melbourne University. He has taught theology for 33 years at the Gregorian University in Rome. Gerry, as he is called, is well known as a speaker and lecturer around the world and has published hundreds of articles and 56 books. These books include Catholicism: A Very Short Introduction (Oxford University Press), Jesus: A Portrait (Darton Longman and Todd). In 2006 he was created a Companion of the General Division of the Order of Australia (AC), and in June 2010 awarded an honorary doctorate by the Australian Catholic University (ACU). He is at present an adjunct professor at ACU and is based in Melbourne.
